The Oracle Technology Network is happy to welcome members of the BEA Dev2Dev and Arch2Arch communities. The OTN team, which now includes some of the very same people behind those BEA communities, is hard at work merging the best of Dev2Dev and Arch2Arch into OTN. In the coming weeks, all your familiar BEA community resources will emerge on OTN, enhanced by improved tools and increased opportunities for peer interaction and collaboration.

Interaction, Insight, Expertise
The Oracle Technology Network is the world's largest community of developers, DBAs, and architects using Oracle products and industry-standard technologies. Every day, members collaborate via OTN to share real-world insight, expertise, and best practices on how to build, deploy, manage, and optimize applications.

Frequently Asked Questions
Updated Oct. 21, 2008

What happened to the Dev2Dev Website?

As of Aug. 1, the Dev2Dev and Arch2Arch URLs redirect to the OTN homepage. Forums.bea.com and edocs.bea.com will remain accessible via those URLs for a time. Forums.bea.com will remain in read-only service until content migration to forums.oracle.com is complete (by the end of the calendar year).

Is BEA product information be available on OTN?

Yes. We are already deep into the migration process and have deployed many new Product Centers—with associated downloads, documentation, discussion forums, and other content—on OTN as of July 1, with more to follow in the coming weeks.

What are the license terms for OTN downloads?

Our motto here is "free to download, free to learn, unlimited evaluation time ". Under the OTN Developer License, you may use full versions of products at no cost, and for an indefinite period, while developing and prototyping your applications (or for strictly self-educational purposes). In some cases, certain downloads (such as Beta releases) have licenses with slightly different terms.

What about Arch2Arch specifically? Will there be Architect content/interaction on OTN?

Yes. Our new community lead in the Architect area, Bob Rhubart, is making Architecture a big focus area going forward for OTN; new Architecture Centers have already deployed on OTN, and subscriptions to Oracle's Arch2Arch Newsletter are already available.

What happend to Dev2Dev blogs?

Individual employee bloggers are responsible for migrating the content of their Dev2Dev blogs to blogs.oracle.com; no systematic migration is/was possible.

And Discussion Forums?

Oracle has an extremely large and active community at forums.oracle.com, which will be the migration point for migrated Dev2Dev/Arch2Arch forums content as well as the hosting point for new BEA-related forums. (No NNTP service is available; however, RSS feeds and email watches are baked in.) No issues there! (See a forums mapping doc here; until migration is complete forums.bea.com is still accessible in read-only mode.)

What happened to BEA Technology Day workshops?

Developers will continue to get free workshop-based training via the OTN Developer Day program.

What is the fate of CodeShare?

CodeShare is being retrofitted for use by the OTN commuity under a new monicker, samplecode.oracle.com. This work is scheduled to complete by the end of 2008.

Will I continue to receive the Dev2Dev and/or Arch2Arch newsletters?

If you are a Dev2Dev newsletter subscriber, you will auto-magically receive Oracle's Dev2Dev Java Newsletter as soon as your subscription can be migrated. Similarly, Arch2Arch Advisor subscribers will receive Oracle's Arch2Arch Architect Newsletter (first edition in August) after the same process. In either case, no action is required from you to maintain your subscription, and you will be notified about how to opt-in or opt-out to other communications from Oracle.

I receive Dev2Dev/Arch2Arch content via RSS feeds today. Will I continue to receive those feeds?

No. However, Oracle offers RSS feeds for a wide variety of equivalent content. You will have to set up subscriptions through your feed reader or news aggregator.

How do I become an OTN Member?

If you are registered to download Oracle software or participate in Discussion Forums, you are already an OTN member. Otherwise registration is a free, fast, DIY process. Join us!
